I wrote this poem a year ago to date.
For those of us who drowned
When the water was meant to keep us afloat
For those of us who suffocated
When too much air filled our lungs
For those of us who crashed
When the autopilot lost control
For those of us who wept
When the pain was too much to hold
For those of us who lost sight
When the image was crystal clear
For those of us who couldn’t hear our voice
When it was the only thing you needed to hear
For those of us who went down the wrong path
When everyone told you go right
For those of us who slipped through the cracks
When you tried hard to keep flight
For those of us who shouldn’t have trusted
When your gut screamed run
For those of us who bled dry
When the wounds were no longer the problem
For those of us who’ll feel this way
At this point of time or in some other
For those of us who are in the same boat
Don’t look to us for a promise it’ll get better
There’s no quick fix to put you at ease
Coping is how you save the emotionally ill.
